Fox Tracker – Utility and Sniper Knife
The Fox is based in Maniago, a small town north of Pordenone, and was founded in 1977 by Oreste Frati. Thanks to his innate passion for the business and its management skills the company has now established itself in the domestic market and has progressively increased its success abroad. In fact, Fox products enjoy a high reputation in European countries such as Germany and Spain, where local production leaves little room for imported products.
In 2008, Fox has also obtained the ISO 9001:2008 certification. He was born in that year the Euro Knives Italy that specializes in the design and production of technologically innovative folding blade knives. In 2009 the House of Manipur decided to found Fox Knives USA. A company very brave because the American market is the most important in the world but also the most difficult because of the fierce competition from domestic and foreign companies. But as the old saying goes, the class is not water.
Thanks to years of industry experience and deep knowledge of materials and processes, Fox products were immediately appreciated by fans and professionals and the continuous effort that the company dedicated to the design is a guarantee of success for the future. Looking at the number of fixed-blade knives produced by Fox we were attracted by the appealing line of Tracker, a “small camp knife” extremely versatile but clearly intended for use by military personnel. The blade of the tracker is a true masterpiece of design. Its shape recalls the forms of Kukri, but it is clear that the real inspiration of this knife is the Tom Brown Tracker, used in the famous film starring Tommy Lee Jones.
The blade of the Tracker has a drop point configuration with three tiers: the part closest to the guard has a height of about 3 cm. and the wire is concave. The bevels of this stretch are those with a more obtuse angle and, while maintaining a good penetration, lend themselves to cuts and burdensome to batoning. The next section has a height of 4.5 cm. in its proximal part and reduces to 3.5 cm in the most distal part. The wire is slightly convex and the bevels form an angle much more acute assuring a higher cutting capacity. The blade thickness is 5.7 mm. and Maintain that in the first two sections.
The third order, the tip has a shape “much”, is 25 mm long. and the angle formed by the wire away from the spine is 75 ° approximately. These measures confer to the tip of the Tracker a sufficient capacity of penetration but above all a good strength when subjected to bending during forced levers. The overall length of the blade, when measured starting from the lower guard, is 14.5 cm. Starting from the top guard, which is more advanced, the length is 12.5 cm. The back of the blade has a nice milling of edges that further enhances the beauty of the design. The balance of the Tracker is slightly forward and the fulcrum is positioned 1.5 cm. front of the lower branch of the guard. The guard has two branches offset. Their positioning and anatomy of the neck privilege mode handle combat: the thumb lying is positioned perfectly on the knurled handle. The recesses for the other four fingers are located perfectly and allow a firm grip and comfortable. The branches are the rest of the guard in the event of a front lunge. Both have a hole for the insertion of the laces wrist.
The shank of the Tracker ends with a skull crasher drilled for the insertion of the lace and its dimensions ensure a good robustness in the event of torsion. The handle is enveloping in Forprene and has a very fine porosity sufficient to prevent slipping but also with wet hands. With two Allen screws you can remove the handle from the shank for a cleaning or to tie the knife at an auction. The Tracker weighs 310 grams and has a total length of 28 cm. As just mentioned, the shape of the handle is specific for the combat position. However, holding the knife in other ways do not feel discomfort details. The consistency of the Forprene and not excessive size of the slots for the fingers do not bother my hand and help prevent loss of grip. The steel used is the N690Co that ensures a hardness of 58/59 HRC.
The finish is matte black anti-glare and scratch resistant thanks to a treatment Foxionic to 72/75 HRC. The sheath is Cordura, black, multi-position in conformation with MOLLE system. E ‘equipped with a front pocket to accommodate the sharpening stone, any folding knife or other tools. The housing of the blade is a shell made of rigid plastic that can be removed from the coating Cordura thanks to an Allen screw positioned at the lower end of the sheath and that avoid any risk of injury in case of fall over of the user. Therefore the Fox Tracker fits into the category of tactical knives but also in that of utility. The size and weight are sufficiently low to allow a port easily. In addition, its strength and its characteristics make it an excellent knife for hikers, campers and hunters.
The angles of the bevels and the wire very sharp allowing the user to make cuts accurate and detailed. The handle also makes it suitable for use by military personnel or security that must operate in remote areas, however, as a combat knife, is a bit ‘affected by the limited capacity of penetration. In any case, the Tracker Fox is also appreciated for the beauty of its lines. It ‘a beautiful object that will surely not disappoint the expectations of the user but it can make her look good in a collection of tactical knives.
